The Fordham, at 52 Old Elvet is spacious, very comfortable, well kitted out and in a perfect location for exploring the city.  The hosts were in constant communication offering help and advice if needed.  

Location absolutely perfect car parking immediately behind the apartment.  Hosts great,  lots of communication beforehand and during visit. We would definitely book again.  Needs a handle and latch on bathroom door in smaller bedroom.

Excellent location and parking facilities. Walking distance into city centre. Lovely modern apartment and comfortable bed and helpful staff and owner.  The bathroom had a slight damp smell and lots of cobwebs in the roof spaces with a few light bulbs out in the living area and the bedside lamp didn’t work. 

Great stay in Durham to visit friends and perfect location to explore the city. Would recommend to friends.

This is an exceeds your expectations kind of property. We stayed at the Kirkham which was a two bedroom apartment. As you walk into the main door you can see it is very clean and very modern. I liked that there were no keys to mess around with, the main door and the door to the apartment are on codes. The hosts kept in constant contact with us via the booking app just in case we needed anything. The beds are very comfy and the shower is very powerful. Good strong wifi and netflix is available on the tv. The building has 5 parking spots at the rear however, we were not able to find a spot there so we ended up parking on the main road outside the building. After 6pm is it free. I parked up on Saturday at 4pm and paid for only 2 hours but parked till Monday as Sunday and Bank Holidays are free all day. The apartments are very close to the shops, restaurants, boats, Cathedral and Castle. Everything is walking distance.  I need to reiterate that the decor and cleanliness are on point in this building.

The apartments were spectacular and really made us 'wow' when we first arrived. They were comfortable and clean, everything we hoped for.

Excellent location, seems to be recently renovated, great amenities (toiletries etc). A really great place to stay in Durham for a group of 4. We didn’t use parking but that also looked very convenient especially in central Durham. Comfy beds.  Nothing! We will definitely be back. 

Really recommend, great place to stay as a group of friends visiting Durham

Location is good and the property itself was obviously renovated well in the past. Unfortunately it has not been maintained well.  The smell of drains (see other reviews). The property wasn’t clean. The hosts did not respond to my attempt to contact them until less than 24hrs before we were due to leave. Very poor customer service with no resolution our complaint from the host. In the end Booking.com intervened but also didn’t get a response. They have resolved our complaint themselves.

Great location  Nasty smell in the shower room and shower leaked badly. Grout could also do with a good toothbrush clean

Fantastic location and accommodation,  highly recommend  

Location was really close to the city so we were able to walk everywhere. Property was very clean. Office very responsive when we had to contact them.  Documents for check in were sent via a link which was difficult to access in a poor connection area so a PDF that we could have printed at home would have been easier.  However, the office were very responsive when we called them as we couldn't work out how the apartment keypad worked. There was no area to eat as the stools for the breakfast bar have been removed since the publicity photos were taken.   Despite having 8 dinner plates, 8 side plates and 8 dishes, there were only 2 mugs which was the crockery we used the most! Grateful for the previous reviewer who advised there was no dishcloth/scourer which tipped us off to take our own.  There was a tea towel provided at the property. 

Location can’t be beat and Andy was extremely responsive and helpful. For example, when I asked for some more rubbish bags they arrived within 5 minutes. Highly recommended and will certainly be staying again on our next visit to Durham.

Very spacious. Very well equipped. Spotless. Modern. Great WiFi. Great thermostat for heating. A home away from home. Great location close to tourist areas and eateries. Close to Uni. All questions answered promptly.  Steep stairs. Not for the unfit or infirm or heavy bags. Was allotted attic flat(penthouse) so had to mind my head on a couple of occasions.

A nice spacious property, very clean and comfortable. Ideal for our family to attend University Graduation ceremony. Very responsive host.  Loved the little touches on arrival, fresh flowers, celebratory bubbly and chocs. Thank you.

it was beautifully appointed. Everything you need. High quality, very comfortable  would have loved a waste paper basket in the bedroom! other than that this apartment needs nothing more!

Large apartment with parking very close to town, had all the amenities needed with good communication with the host who were very responsive to messages, I would stay here again.

Havia Prosecco e chocolates e biscoitos e cha e açucar de cortesia, alem de shampoo e todas as toalhas etc... o gestor veio se apresentar e inclusive prontamento nos trouxe mais sabao para maquina de lavar pratos que pedimos. o apartamento esta super bem localizado e é muito bem decorado. Tinha mesa de jantar grande e cozinha aparelhada. O hall de entrada é amplo e as escadas para os andares muito largas e arejadas. havia até um sofa cama que nós nao precisamos usar. foi excelente!!!!  o estacionamento tem vagas não muito amigáveis para carros grandes.

The location was great, 5 mins walk into town.  Nothing it was great, highly recommended. 

Decor and living space fantastic in a beautiful old building.  Location superb. Host very responsive  If you want to self cater, there is a full, quality  kitchen.  Tea, coffee, milk, sugar and oj for guests.   A coffee machine would be nice  Not host's fault, but early construction works on street and general street noise during the night on the side street, impacted one bedroom in particular.  Advised host's of work and he attended on site next morning.

Great location; very walkable to everything; off street parking, comfy and spacious bed, great layout and accommodation. The kitchen had all needed appliances. Good reading lamps on bedside tables.  Loved the "old" feel with the new.

Very nice apartment, great location, free parking very useful too  

The stay was spot on. The accommodation was in an ideal location, only a stones throw from the city centre. The private parking was perfect. and the bonus having an electric vehicle were 2 charge points directly opposite on the street (at an average cost).  The access was made really easy via the pin entry. The flat was very spacious and plenty of room for the 4 adults that stayed. All facilities that you'd probably need for a short trip.  My only small negative was the toilet paper, for the price of the room, it was as thin as can be. That said, if that's the only criticism then it's pretty impressive!!

A stunning apartment.  The location was absolutely perfect with the shops and restaurants on the Bailey and beautiful riverside walks only a couple of minutes away. On arrival, we found the apartment to be absolutely spotless and very well-equipped.  There were numerous plug points in every room, which was very helpful.  Despite staying there over some of the hottest days of the year, we found the apartment to be very comfortable and not stuffy at all.   Daniel was extremely responsive and helpful. We have already booked our next stay!

Location is excellent, close to the city centre. The apartment is clean and tidy. Adequate kitchenware were provided. Prompt response by the host when there were enquiries.  Good that a washing machine could be used but no hangers were provided. No television channels in the living room's tv (need to log into own's accounts perhaps) The tv could be used in the bedroom where programmes could be found using the logged in accounts (not sure if they belonged to previous tenants or provided by the apartment though).

Great property at a superb location

We arrived for the Durham Miner's Gala Perfect location  It is a truly amazing house and our accommodation was faultless. Staff incredibly helpful without being intrusive at all. We are looking to book again and again.  

Perfect stay

Had a lovely short stay, great location for restaurants, bars/pubs, shops & sightseeing, all within easy walking distance. Apartment was clean, uncluttered & looked like the photos, would highly recommend. Parking behind the building, limited but we got there for just after 3pm so were able to get a space. Only difficultly we had was unable to find WiFi  password but phoned and was sent it promptly.

Our third visit to 52 Old Elvet. Fantastic location in the centre of Durham. So convenient to be able to walk to the town and to have a free parking space on site. Beautiful modrn apartment which is very well equipped, maintained and comfortable.  Great communication once booked, during and after. Highly recommend.  No negatives!

Beautifully decorated. Well appointed bathroom and kitchen.  It would be helpful to have a few condiments available, like milk etc when we rented the Fordham we have a few things left for us in the fridge.

Lovely accommodation in the heart of Durham

Excellent apartment would highly recommend. The second bedroom on the ground floor level is 3-4 steps at a lower level and feels cramped & claustrophobic and does not have any windows. Typical of a renovated old building. So guests should be aware. Suitable for young children but not for a couple. But overall a great apartment.

A great location, step out and across the bridge and you are in the town with restaurants, etc within minutes. The apartment was very clean and the furnishings were well-appointed.   Overall, we had a very comfortable stay.  The second bedroom could have had a few more hangers. 5 for 2 people isn't enough.  It would have been helpful if there was a mirror in it for dressing, hair, and makeup for the ladies. All of which the 1st bedroom had.  A bit niggly but, just a few kitchen things would have been helpful as well, ie: salt & pepper, etc.

Durham delights

Location  Illegally blocked fire escape with flamable materials, not as the advertised, no table , no chairs, mouldy shower, no coffee, no coffee machine, wifi wrong, TV too big and not set up, occasional sewer smell, clinically white througout, very bright street lights outside, one bathroom light not working.. Host & Stay free with the sympathy but unabel or unwilling to take any action to solve the problems 

Potentially a great apartment spoilt by lack of facilties and unhelpful hosts

Absolutely beautiful apartment, with everything you need.  Milk orange juice and shortbread were a lovely touch. Apartment we were to have had unfortunately sustained some water damage overnight. While travelling down to Durham, Dan had sent emails explaining and offered us another apartment, which was lovely. Private carpark to rear of building was great. Met Andy on the morning of our departure, who said we could leave the car as long as we wanted as we wanted another look around beautiful Durham before we left, which was so nice of him. Check out was at 10 am, but Andy said we could stay longer as asked the cleaners to leave our apartment to the end to clean so after a walk round Durham, some breakfast we came back just to check everything was packed away and use the toilet before leaving.  Absolutely amazing place, and I definitely would recommend and stay again.  There is nothing to not like. The apartment was spacious, and central to the town. 

Amazing holiday

Excellent location. Good communication with property owners. The Egerton apartment was a lovely place in which to spend a few days in Durham .  Sitting room / kitchen area a wee bit small for 4 adults. Locating TV on the wall and having a smaller or folding dining table would have allow a bit more space.

Great stay near Durham Cathedral.

The apartment is a 20 minute walk from the train station and it takes 15 minutes to get to the city sights. Everything was great.

Perfect location for walking into town. Large kitchen/dinner/lounge area.

The location was great, beds were comfortable, it was clean, easy to access and the little extras (tea, milk and biscuits) were lovely.  You had to go downstairs to the bathroom in the night. During the day there was loud music coming from upstairs. 

A lovely stay in Durham. We will return.

Great location Good quality apartment Homely Has two EV charge points just outside the flat (7.5KW)  I stayed in the Talbot Penthouse.  It was a hot weekend when we stayed there and because of being a penthouse it was uncomfortably hot in the apartment.  The owner did provide fans on request but even with the blinds down and windows open it was hard to get the temperature down.  Clearly this is not a regular issue in UK. Given how expensive this flat is I would expect it to have air con.   Although the site has parking there is not enough for the whole building.  We were lucky the first night but unlucky the second.   This would not be a good flat if you struggle with stairs.  Lovely if you are ok with stairs. 

Great location and flat but uncomfortable on a hot day.

We stayed in the Tunstall for four nights.  Location good. Close to the Elvet bridge, city,restaurants Quiet at night, bed comfortable, nice and dark at night. We both slept well.  Apartment warm. Kitchen worked well. Shower great. Well equipped.  Internet didn’t work. Phone call to manager who said they would come round and fix it. They didn’t. They did give us the password to another apartments internet and that worked, but you had to be in the lounge. The modem box was out so we guessed this was not a fresh issue, just an issue that has not been addressed.  2 adults for 4 nights and only two toilet rolls !!The place costs gbp 210 a night. I’ve seen this same comment previously, so BYO toilet rolls. Same comment shampoo and body wash.  Instructions on how to lock the door would help people from overseas who have not seen that type of locking mechanism before.   The confirmation from booking dot com shows an extra charge of gbp 25 for cleaning but no one cleaned while we were there. It also shows an extra charge of gbp 25 for “service fee” I am not aware of any services that we received.   The managers of the property send me an email about checking in, every day. Every day before checking in, every day after checking in and daily after checking out. It looks like a glitch in the system.   Floor rug in lounge is stained and needs replacing.   Extraction fan in the toilet would not turn off. Didn’t like the smell from the  vanilla scented plug in air freshener.   It was a lovely place with a lot of positives. But …too many negatives for the price  (gbp 210 a night). In my opinion it did not represent  good value for money.

We have stayed in Durham many times but usually in a hotel, the experience at number 52 was such that we will stay again definitely. It was wonderful  Nothing

Excellent location and very convenient. Comfortable bed and cosy warm space. Easy to park. Very good communication from host  It was a slight shame our apartment (tunstall) was at the back and not one of the presumably more attractive apartments, but it is well equipped so didn't really matter. Would've been a nice bonus to have at least one dishwasher tablet/ few biscuits/ something more than 2 teabags  provided -it felt slightly mean for the price to provide so little in terms of kitchen amenities

Had a lovely few days here in this well equipped, clean, comfortable apartment. Really well placed for access to all that the lovely city of Durham has to offer just a few minutes stroll ( Old Elvet bridge is just a minutes walk from the apartment ). No hesitation recommending this apartment for a stay in Durham. Would stay here again.

This is a nice, spacious apartment very well located a short walk to the peninsula where there are lots of restaurants, the cathedral, etc. It is well stocked. The beds are reasonably comfy. I would definitely recommend it as long as you don't need any help from the completely unresponsive property managers.  I was very disappointed with the customer service. Instructions were provide to log into the wifi, however they didn't work. When I contacted the managers, the only response I received was the same instructions I was originally sent. I replied back that those instructions didn't work, I asked for help and provided my phone number for them to call. I never heard back. We had to use our cell phone internet for the two days we were in the apartment. I have never had a location manager completely ignore me before. 

Great apartment, terrible customer service

Good size and excellent location with free parking  It needs a little bit of tlc and some simple things such as hooks for coats or a coat stand, a few smaller pots and pans and we didn’t have a tea towel but overall the place is good and beds are very comfortable. 

Good value for money and good location

Fabulous location, easy access to the tow paths for walks and also the city centre and colleges. Bathrooms and shower very good.  It would have been a bonus to have had washing  up liquid , tea towel and oven gloves but  that's really just nitpicking 

A* stay in Durham

great location and good communication with owner.  no enough seats for 4 and the sofa was so uncomfortable. Beds really low and pillows too flat. shower in en-suite was blocked as the base was filling up with water. 

Ideally placed with parking in city centre, compact apartment with everything we needed and 2 bed 2 bathrooms suited us well. Our request for one room to be made up as twins was sorted in advance and staff could not have been nicer!  TV reception was a bit dodgy

Very well located apartment for visiting Durham - it is only a few minutes walk from the castle, cathedral and river walks.  Old Elvet is a quiet residential street, so you are not much disturbed by the bustle of the old town. The apartment was clean, spacious and decently equipped for a short stay.  The management staff were readily available to deal with questions we had. The location is easy to find and access with the electronic key system was convenient. There are indeed five free parking spaces as specified, although there are rather more than five apartments in the building so the first come first served principle is crucial! We did get a space after our first night and were glad we did  There is ample street parking around, and free from 6pm to 8am, but pricy during the day (including weekends and Bank Holidays). Would stay again if in Durham.  

Was surprised there was no toilet in one of the en-suite bedrooms, but it was just outside that bedroom so it wasn’t the end of the world. 

Friendly host and housekeeping staff and apartment close to city centre.

The apartment was beautiful, clean and spacious. Location is very central.. Lots of restaurants and shops. Parking was available. The service was impeccable. Andy, our service manager was great, went above and beyond to help wherever he could. Dan was also very helpful with all communication throughout. All round wonderful experience. We would definitely stay again. Thank you.

Location was excellent and the apartment was very clean and comfortable. My bedroom got lot of sun.  No elevator. Atleast a carriage elevator or some help can be provided. Bathroom is very small.
